Zip Lines, Scooters and Cows, Oh My!

Once upon a time, I actually kept up with my blog!  Then I moved to Germany and things got, well, complicated.  I hope I can start to be a more regular poster eventually.  We have another trip coming up that will need to be documented, so I better finish posting about the one that happened in August...

The second day of our trip to Grindelwald, Switzerland, we took a gondola ride up to the Bachalpsee trail head, which is on the summit "First."  At the top of this lift was also an incredible restaurant, as well as a starting point for a zip line.  But more about that later.  The gondola up the mountain was a beautiful way to start the day.

Once we reached the top, we re-introduced K to the backpack carrier and started off on this magnificent trail.
Milk in Switzerland comes from cows that graze up and down throughout the mountains.  You could hear their cowbells clanging near and far.  I am so happy that I now have a new association with the sound of a cowbell that does not involve Will Ferrell and "Don't Fear the Reaper."  The latter is funnier, but the former is certainly more meaningful.
Of course, the views on this trail were amazing.  I would say better than the Panoramaweg, but this hike was a little bit more strenuous.
At the end of this trail was a small, beautiful lake with a killer backdrop.  It didn't even seem real.
We figured this was a perfect place to stop and enjoy a picnic lunch.

Matt and I took turns hiking over to the opening where water spilled from the lake down onto the mountain.  That little figure you see in the opening is either Matt or I.
K enjoyed playing with rocks and looking at tiny fish swimming in the water.  He did look out at the mountains a lot and would say, "Whoa!"  We aren't sure if he was just imitating us or if he was truly blown away.  Maybe a little bit of both.
On the hike back, the cows were right up next to and even on the trail.  They didn't seem fazed by all of the tourists.
K fell asleep again in the backpack on the hike back.
The sky was absolutely incredible on day 2 and I had a great time snapping photos of all the cows.
After our hike, we enjoyed some snacks and beers at a restaurant with an unbeatable view.
After we finished our drinks, we headed to a sandbox where Kellan played for a bit before we continued to the next part of our adventure.
Next up, the zip line.  Karen and Kellan rode the gondola down to the next stopping point and waited for us.  Even though it was brief, it was an amazing thirty seconds!
I had my camera in my lap and managed to get a photo of Matt on the way down.  Pretty cool!
Karen snapped some photos of us at the end.  So glad she volunteered to watch Kellan so we could do some fun stuff just the two of us.  :-)
Next, we went down one more gondola stop to let Kellan play on a playground.  Here we also picked up scooters that Matt and I would take all the way back down into town.
While Matt and I went off on our downhill scooter ride, Kellan and Grammy enjoyed some ice cream and then took the gondola back down the mountain.
Our scooter ride was awesome and I highly recommend it to anyone who visits Grindelwald.  My face hurt from smiling the entire way down by the time we were done!
That evening, K made up for the time he spent in the backpack by running up and down a hill behind our chalet over and over and over again.  Fortunately, Grammy was happy to assist him.
We all collapsed into bed that night, exhausted, but excited for the rest of our trip.
