So finally, over two months since our Southern Germany trip, I am posting the last segment of our Southern Germany sampler. We spent the last week of May and the entire month of June in the United States and all I wanted to do was relax. When we got back, all I wanted to do was survive overcoming jet lag alone with a two-year-old! I didn't take many pictures while we were in the U.S., but I will post the ones I have soon.
One the second to last day of our trip, we drove through the Black Forest to Triberg on a scenic drive mapped out by Rick Steve's in his Germany travel book. It was beautiful.
We stopped in Triberg to see Germany's highest waterfall and to invest in a Cuckoo Clock. We started with the waterfall and a picnic lunch. Matt picked up some genuine Black Forest ham sandwiches for us while Kellan enjoyed a local playground. It was a short and beautiful hike up to the top of the falls. One of my favorite feelings in the world is the crisp, cool air coming off of a stream or falls in the woods. The sound of the rushing water is like music to my ears too. So pleasant and relaxing.
Kellan was mesmerized.
He and Daddy had a lot of fun on the hike. Kellan kept taking Matt's hat off and thought it was just hilarious. Then Matt would reach back and tickle him, which started numerous giggle-fests.There is a ropes course near the falls, but we didn't go check it out. I would have love something like that when I was a teenager!
Up near the top of the falls was opportunity for more tickling and good photos.
Kellan fell asleep while we were shopping. The clock we got is still in it's box. We are going to wait until we get back to the U.S. to get it out, I think. I forgot to take a picture of it in the store before it was packed away, but it is similar to this, it just doesn't have the big bird on the top. I think there are leaves instead.
Pretty cool!
After Triberg we headed towards Ramstein Air Force Base where we went on an American food shopping extravaganza. My list was somewhat destroyed in the heat of shopping, but this should give you an idea of all of the American stuff you can't get in Germany, that's just not the same or is cheaper/easier to find in a non-German store.
And that would conclude our Southern Germany Sampler! I had to reorganize my entire kitchen and cellar (our closet of storage space in the basement of our building) to fit all of the food I bought in the apartment. Then I had a horrible stomach ache from eating all of that processed American crap!
It was an amazing trip and I highly recommend all of the places we visited. If you are planning a trip to this area anytime soon, please let me know. I would be happy to help!
