Speaking of number two... I'm sorry I couldn't help myself. This is the what a toilet looks like in a medieval castle. It's basically a hole in the floor/wall. When someone does their, ahem, "business" it runs down the side of the castle, and that's where it stays until it rains. Talk about curb appeal.
No castle would be complete without the obligatory torture chamber. Pretty frightening place. It was pretty dark in there, so the only photo I could get was of this tapestry on the wall. Yikes.
And that marked the conclusion of our castle tour. Kellan wandered over to the door to let us know he was ready to go.
K was asleep after about 15 minutes into the hour-long car ride home. Castle exploration is hard work!
The only good part you missed of the English speaking tour was that back in the REALLY old days, it was considered rude to interupt your dinner conversations just to go to the toilet (placed strategically in the middle of the dining hall) so when people would get up to go, they left the door open. They only closed the door at night to keep people from sneaking into the castle. The locks for the door were on the outside!
